Whitchurch Hospital Bowls Club, Cardiff
The bowling green at Whitchurch Hospital, Cardiff was first opened in 1952. In 1958 it was used as a venue for the British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff. The green then went through a period of decline. It reopened in 1979 and its membership was at that time restricted to current and retired employees on the local Health Authority. However the membership is now open to all, both Ladies and Gentlemen.
In 1980 the Club was affiliated to the Welsh Bowling Association, the South Glamorgan Bowling Association and the Welsh Private Greens.
The Mens section competes each Saturday in both the PG1 and PG3 Leagues of the Welsh Private Greens. Each Wednesday evening in the Cardiff Mid Week League. And each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon in the Alliance League.
The Ladies section competes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the South Wales and Mon League and the Cardiff North League and in the Rose Bowl on various afternoons.
In addition there are the usual internal club competitions and various friendly matches. Our membership is not huge so we can guarantee everyone regular bowling.
